As we start a new chapter in 2021, I spent some time last week, reflecting what were the few things that consistently delivered results for me, as a Product Manager, I am obsessed with metrics to evaluate performance and do a post launch analysis and reflection, it is a fun exercise for me over a cup of coffee (ok maybe 2 or 3)!

After some brainstorming- 3 things stand out for me.

· Empowered teams: the most crucial element to achieve anything, a motivated and trusted team can do wonders and I am lucky to be a part of one where I get the opportunity to work with some of the most talented folks!

It is quite easy to become over obsessed with everything to the point where you get too involved and that is why it is really important to set the boundaries, pull back and trust on the members to own and drive their areas. By doing that not only you get the time to focus on the big picture, but the team also steps up to the occasion and goes beyond expectation.

· Cross-functional partnerships: seems obvious and a top-priority task, but often it is the most ignored aspect which falls through the crack, especially in current times where we are connected remotely. It needs a lot of effort to ensure all key stakeholders are informed at every major milestone, creating a simple but effective framework (like a weekly/bi-weekly forum) and religiously following up helps to avoid any last-minute surprises and ensures a smooth process!

· Feedback loop: measuring results periodically and taking data driven decisions is the only way which helps with credibility and separates the facts from fiction (I firmly believe in W. Edwards Deming’s quote ‘without data you’re just another person with opinion!’), it also helps you to validate your initial hypothesis and make any required adjustments or improvements to reach the set objective!

If you made it till here then I hope you found something useful, do share any comments or insights! What are the top 3 things that you found useful?
